Vincent Lepape
Born in Rouen, Vincent Lepape studied trombone with Gilbert Moisand, Jacques Mauger, and Gilles Millière at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he was awarded a First Prize in trombone and two First Prizes in chamber music. He further refined his technique under Yves Demarles, earning an Excellence Award in 1992. He has also participated in masterclasses led by Michel Becquet, Ron Barron, and Joseph Alessi.
In 1994, he won the competition for Principal Trombone at the Teatro Regio di Torino, where he continues his orchestral career, notably performing under the baton of conductors such as Gianandrea Noseda and Andrea Battistoni. He has featured on recordings for Deutsche Grammophon and Chandos, and has taken part in numerous international tours, performing in prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall and the Wiener Konzerthaus.
Deeply committed to chamber music, he is a founding member of the brass quintet Pentabrass, with whom he has recorded four albums, given over 300 concerts, and toured across Europe, America, and Asia. In 2009, he joined the European Brass Orchestra under the direction of Sylvain Cambreling. In 2012, he founded a Trombone Quartet, recording several albums and performing at major international festivals and musical institutions. In April 2018, the ensemble was invited for a series of concerts and masterclasses in the United States—most notably at The Juilliard School in New York, the University of Hartford, and the University of Illinois School of Music—as well as at the Royal Conservatory of Liège and the Lille Trombone Festival.
As a soloist, Vincent Lepape performs regularly around the globe. Notable highlights include giving the Italian premiere of Ernest Bloch’s Symphony for Trombone and Orchestra with the Teatro Regio Orchestra di Torino, and performing Henri Tomasi’s Trombone Concerto with the Filarmonica TRT under the direction of Oksana Lyniv. His solo concerts and recitals have taken him to Brazil, Colombia, Spain, France, Switzerland, Belgium, the United States, Italy, China, and Argentina. In 2016, he released his debut solo album, Like Me, with Summit Records.
Alongside his performing career, he maintains an extensive international teaching schedule. Having previously taught at the XV Arrondissement Conservatory in Paris, the Valle d’Aosta Conservatory, and the Scuola Civica di Torino, he served as a professor at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel from 2020 to 2025. Since 2026, he has been teaching at the Conservatorio di Cuneo in Italy. He regularly conducts workshops and masterclasses worldwide and serves on juries for numerous national and international competitions, particularly in France, Switzerland, Italy, Hungary, and China.
From 2010 to 2014, he served as the Artistic Director of the MasterBrass Festival in Palazzolo sull’Oglio, and subsequently directed the European Trombone Academy in 2017.
