Toshihiro Shirahama

くらしき作陽大学大学院准教授

Associate Professor of Kurashiki Sakuyo University ( faculty of Music ) and Graduate School , a position he has held since 1993 .

He has been Principal trombonist of Pirna National Orchestra , Tokyo New City Orchestra , Okayama Philharmonic Orchestra , joind many orchestra of Japan , Asia and world-wide famous “Saito Kinen Orchestra” (GMD Seiji Ozawa) .

Born in Fukuoka , Japan in 1964 . At the age of 3 , he began the piano and after solfege and trombone ( at the age of 17 ) .

In 1983 , He was raised in Tokyo . He attended the Toho Gakuen School of Music and graduate ( B.Mus.) .
He was successful in a fellowship student of French Government twice times .
He studied under Gilles Milliere in Paris .

He followed master-class with Michel Becquet , Bart van Lier , Christian Lindberg , Branimir Slokar , Roger Harvey , Wolfgang Hagen , Martin Goss , Ronald Barron , Norman Bolter , Byron Peebles and Joseph Alessi .

He was awarded 2nd Prize at U.F.A.M. International competition in Paris (chamber music division ) .

In 2009 , He was successful in a fellowship of Japanese Agency of Cultural Affairs . He studied sackbut and theory of early music under Wim Becu in Koeln , Archen and Antwerpen .

Now he is versatile trombonists of Japan and his career has spanned all areas of the business from live jazz, classical ( in orchestra , chamber music and early music ) and TV & Radio performances to records and film scores.

Also he studied and worked conducting . He worked with Maestro Yoshikazu Fukumura in many asian orchestra and appointed by Pan Asian Philharmonic Orchestra as an assistant conductor in 2001 , and famous judge of many japanese wind band and solo competition .

He is an exclusive musician of Haraya Music Enterprise , Co.,Ltd . Tokyo , JAPAN .
Also he is endorser of Willie’s Custom Brass Mouthpiece , Yamanashi JAPAN (model POLARIS series and VENUS series) .
